Paramount Network scraps ‘Heathers’ reboot

Even before a single episode aired, the Paramount Network decided to opt out and scrap Heathers reboot. Initially, the network was supposed to be aired on March 7, but a decision to pull it off from the schedule has been taken due to the high school shooting which took place in Parkland, Florida on February 14.

As per a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Network later had then planned to launch the anthology series in July. However, as another high school shooting took place at Santa Fe, Texas on May 18, the network has decided to not move forward with the show anymore.

Keith Coz, president of development and production at paramount Network told The Hollywood Reporter, “This is a high school show, we’re blowing up the school, there are guns in the school, it’s a satire, and there are moments of teachers having guns. It’s hitting on so many hot topics.”

Therefore, the network did not feel appropriate to air the show, due to the current scenario, The Hollywood Reporter report further said. The Heathers series is a reboot of the original film, which was written by renowned writer Daniel Waters while Michael Lehmann directed the movie. The movie was based on a girl named Veronica and her boyfriend J. D and how they deal with social order trials and tribulations in the high school.

On the other hand, the new Heathers series is a comedy anthology television show which is based on Veronica working out with a very distinct but vicious group of Heathers. The show starred actors Melanie field, Victoria Cox, Jasmine Mathews, Brendan Scannell and James Scully. The pilot script of the show was written by Jason Micallef who was also to be to be the executive producer of the show while Leslye headland directed the show.
