A lawyer representing actor Morgan Freeman has asked CNN network to remove a report published in the previous week which claims that the veteran actor sexually harassed several women. Freeman’s lawyer, Robert M. Schwartz has sent a letter to the CNN President Jeff Zucker which calls the claim to be false and demanded that CNN should apologize to the Oscar-winning actor and retract the report, according to Variety.
Freeman has denied the sexual harassment accusations since the time the report was published on the network. He had released a statement to The Washington Post that said, “Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy. I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected – that was never my intent.”
CNN had interviewed around 16 people out which eight women claimed that they were subjected to sexual harassment. CNN reporter, Chloe Melas, who also contributed inputs in the story said that in a 2015 press conference held for the movie ‘Going In Style,’ the 80-year-old actor had called her ‘ripe’ which left her feeling uncomfortable. Melas was six months pregnant at that time.
In the letter, Schwartz says that Melas has prodded the witnesses and allegedly asked the victims to tell accuse Freeman of sexual harassment because of her altercation with him. He further said that the accusations made by her imagined by Melas or had been exaggerated wildly out of proportion to the actual reality so that she gets a reason to go after Freeman.
In the report, Mela’s story is the only one which has been given a lot of importance, but Schwartz said that another victim, Tyra Martin claims that the outlet has misinterpreted her account with the veteran actor. However, CNN has denied taking down the story saying that the network stands with its journalist standard of reporting.
