In November 2017, the former pop singer Melissa Schuman had informed that Nick Carter rape her in 2003. That time Schuman was only 18 and Carter was 22. Now, the latest report has revealed that she has filed a police report with the Santa Monica Police Department on Wednesday against Carter.
Informing about this Schuman stated “Filing the police report today was the single most empowering thing I have ever done for myself. I thought it was an option I could no longer pursue.” She thanked the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN) for empowering her to take this step.
She also took that to the social media and Twitted “I’m finally doing what I thought I could no longer do. I’m filing a police report #timesup.”
Schuman informed that Carter raped her in a bathroom after she had come over to his house. For many, she didn’t tell anyone about the alleged incident as she was fearing that people will not believe her. On the other side, Carter denied the allegations wrote “shocked and saddened” by her accusations.
In a statement, Carter stated, “Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual.” He further added that he always supported Melissa both personally and professionally and for the first time he has heard such allegations, after two decades.
She was warned that she would likely be buried in humiliation, accused of being fame hungry. It can affect her professional career and can hurt her publicly.
Concluding her post, Schuman stated “I feel I have an obligation now to come forward with the hope and intention to inspire and encourage other victims to tell their story. We are stronger in numbers. I hope we can bring light to things that have been lost in the darkness for so long.”
