Kate Spade’s father passes away the night before her funeral

Just a few weeks ago, ace fashion designer Kate Spade had died by apparent suicide and now her father, Earl Frank Brosnahan Jr. has passed away just a night before her funeral, according to the statement sent by her family on Thursday to multiple news outlets. He was 89 years old.

The father of the late designer died on Wednesday night. “We are deeply saddened to announce that Katy’s father, Earl F. Brosnahan, Jr. (Frank), passed away last night at age 89,” said the family statement. “He had been in failing health of late and was heartbroken over the recent death of his beloved daughter. He was at home and surrounded by family at the time of his passing.”

As per the Kansas City Star report, the services for the Kate were scheduled for 3 pm on Thursday at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Church. Her father had said previously that it was the same church where Kate’s grandparents exchanged vows.

Notably, Spade’s housekeeper found her hanging in the bedroom of her New York City apartment. A suicide note has also been discovered at the scene; however, the police officials have not disclosed any more details.

Spade, a native of Kansas City, Missouri was initially working Mademoiselle Magazine’s accessories editor when she started the brand Kate Spade along with her husband, Andy Spade in the year 1993 in New York. The brand quickly gained a lot of popularity after which the two opened their first shop in the New York City three years later, as per the company’s official website.

The Kate Spade New York now has over 140 US retail shops and around 175 shops across the world.   

Instead of flowers, Spade’s family asked for donations to the Kansas City animal shelter or American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
