Jeremy Irons to play the lead role in HBO’s ‘Watchmen’ series

DC Comics veteran Jeremy Irons will be seen playing the lead role in HBO television series ‘Watchmen,’ as per Deadline. Irons is well-known for his role Alfred Pennyworth in the recent movie ‘Barman v Superman: Dawn of Justice an Justice League’ and his roles in the movies ‘Dead Ringers’ and ‘The Lion King.’

Irons now joins the earlier announced Tim Blake Nelson, Regina King, Louis Gossett Jr., Don Johnson, Andrew Howard and Adelaide Clemens cast members of ‘Watchmen.’ Even though the details of the character he will play are not out yet, the outlet reports that Irons will play a British Manor’s imperious lord. However, it is safe to assume that further details will be released as soon as the production of the show begins.

The series will reportedly be filmed in Tulsa, Oklahoma and seems to have characters which are not a part of the original ‘Watchmen’ comics. As per the previous photos of the set have indicated, the HBO’s ‘Watchmen’ television series will be more like a jump-off point from the original Watchmen plot.

In a social media post, Damon Lindelof, Executive Producer of the pilot explained, “We have no desire to ‘adapt’ the twelve issues Mr. Moore and Mr. Gibbons created thirty years ago.”   

“Those issues are sacred ground, and they will not be retreaded nor recreated nor reproduced nor rebooted… they will, however, be remixed” he added.

Notably, HBO ‘Watchmen’ series is being produced for the network by White Rabbit in collaboration with Warner Bros Television. The series will be the second major deletion series role Iron would play. Iron has won an Oscar award in the year 1991 for the film ‘Reversal of Fortune’ and additionally, is also a Tony, Golden Globe, SAG, and Emmy award winner.

Well, one will have to wait and see how Irons performs in the upcoming series.
