It is very sad news for all the fans of Elton John. On Wednesday, John has announced about his retirement from the road after nearly 50 years.
He said “I’m not going to be touring anymore; I’m not going to be touring and travelling the world. My priorities have changed. I have young children.”
The record sales have been declining for some years or Elton John. Ill health has suffered him. Now he has confirmed his goodbye tour in a live-streamed press conference. In the conference, he stated that he would spend three years on the road saying goodbye with a 300-date tour.
He stated, “I’m not in ill health – you couldn’t do 300 performances if you were ill.” As per the report, Elton has partnered with Gucci for the 300+ dates. He will start his journey in North America before travelling to Europe, Asia, South America and Australasia. He will travel till 2021, and he’ll be 73 by the end of the journey. He’ll continue with his Las Vegas residency until the planned final show on May 19, 2018.
During his tour of South America in the year 2017, he almost died from a rare bacterial infection. Then he spent two nights in intensive care and 12 days in the hospital after becoming ill on a flight when returning to Britain after a performance in Santiago, Chile.
Elton John’s wife stated “The kids understood daddy wasn’t well. They didn’t know the seriousness of it, obviously, but they came to visit him in the hospital as that was an important part of keeping the patient’s spirits up.”
This isn’t for the first time that John announced he was quitting from live performing. He has been announced this during a show in London. In that event, he said, “I’ve made a decision tonight that this is going to be the last show.”
