After the allegations of “inappropriate behavior” in his past came to the fore, CBS News has fired its political director Steve Chaggaris. Chaggaris worked in the CBS News for many years, having joined the agency in 1999. In his latest role among others, Chaggaris looked after the coverage of the Trump administration and occasionally appeared on CBS programs. However, he could not be reached out for a comment on Wednesday on this issue. Besides, sometime in the past two days, his Twitter account was also deleted. This decision to fire Chaggaris was taken six weeks after CBS fired the co-host of its morning show, Charlie Rose. Notably, Rose was fired after the Washington Post released detailed allegations of sexual misconduct by her. To wake the employees to report any harassment cases, CBS and other major media companies issued reminders to their staffers behind the importance of reporting harassment or any other improper behavior to the workers and other official channels. As per a CBS News Spokeswoman, the allegations against Chaggaris came to the fore short before the Christmas holiday. CBS said in a statement, “In the last two weeks, accounts of inappropriate behavior by Steve Chaggaris were brought to our attention and were immediately investigated.” Chaggaris left CBS in the year 2010, but rejoined the outlet in the year 2012 and became its senior political editor. In March last year, he became the CBS News political director. This was the time when he supervised the coverage of the Trump administration. The news agency’s staffers were informed about Chaggaris’ departure on Wednesday.
